His Holiness the Dalai Lama will teach on The Heart Sutra, The Sutra of Truly Remembering the Sublime Three Jewels, and the Wisdom Chapter of A Guide to the Bodhisattva Way of Life. He will also bestow an initiation into The Buddha Establishing the Three Pledges.

A program will be provided to all in attendance with English, Tibetan and Chinese translations of each text. His Holiness’s teachings will also be simultaneously translated into English, Chinese and Russian.

The Heart Sutra

The Heart Sutra is a concise and definitive statement on the ultimate nature of reality. Inspired by the Buddha, it is spoken by Avalokiteshvara in dialogue with Shariputra.

The Sutra of Truly Remembering the Sublime Three Jewels

By recalling the qualities of the Buddha, his teachings, and those who follow his teachings, a practitioner generates deeper faith and understanding. This sutra is widely recited by both Buddhist monastics and lay people.

A Guide To The Bodhisattva Way Of Life, Wisdom Chapter

The Wisdom Chapter from A Guide To The Bodhisattva Way Of Life is written by Shantideva, an eighth century Buddhist master and scholar from Nalanda Monastic University. This classic treatise is a clear set of instructions on how to cultivate an awakened mind. In the opening statement of the ninth chapter, Shantideva says that the previous chapters of his text are presented for the sake of generating the wisdom that pacifies all suffering.

The Buddha Establishing the Three Pledges Initiation

His Holiness will bestow an initiation into The Buddha Establishing the Three Pledges (In Tibetan: Thupa Damtsik Sumkö), a Tantric Buddhist practice employing powerful means for eliminating negative karma and its underlying afflicted mental states and tendencies, ultimately leading to the attainment of the state of a fully enlightened Buddha. This rite is open to all, and for those without a dedicated Buddhist practice it can be taken merely as a blessing
